In a study published in the medical journal, Journal Cardiovascular of Thoracic Research, a double blind, human study lasting 8 weeks, 84 patients ages 40 to 65, suffering coronary artery disease, were randomly divided into 2 groups. One group took a daily supplement of 30 mg of saffron. The other group took a placebo. Diets were unchanged. Both groups were instructed to eat what they felt like. The result? Patients taking the 30mg of saffron enjoyed a decrease in body weight index (the amount of fat on your body) and a decrease in waist circumference.
In a double-blind study reported by the scientific journal, Nutrition Resources, 60 overweight women were split into 2 groups. Once group took 2 capsules of saffron totaling 167 mg of saffron a day. The second group took a placebo. Both groups of women were told not to restrict their calories. In other words, they ate what they wanted. After 8 weeks, the group that took the 167 mg of saffron lost significantly more weight than the placebo.
